It Took Seconds

Four minutes and sixteen seconds: “Headphonics 1/0” is meant to be listened to as part of Ryoji Ikeda’s +/- album but if that particular slice of minimalist sound-artistry had “a single” this would be it. At about 1’15” a rippling bassline comes in and gives the game away - for all that the Headphonics piece (as a whole) is about turning yr brainspace into an installation this particular fragment of it is an IDM banger, pure and simple. You get rhythms built on two-note pulses and ominous cinematic drone-tones rising out of your brainstem, but it’s that lovely, liquid bass that holds the whole thing together.
