It Took Seconds

Four minutes and nine seconds: A blockbuster hook, an appropriated reggae lope, joyfully arbitrary lyrics…. “Jet” is Paul McCartney (and/as Wings) basically spending four minutes demonstrating how effortlessly awesome it was to be a stadium-packing megastar during pop’s early-70s high tide*. Because he’s his ever-generous self he makes it fun for us too - not all his contemporaries did.

*actually, if I remember my history, the recording of the Band On The Run album was pretty bloody fraught and involved robberies, sackings, general badness - but that’s not the point: blitheness was what Macca wanted to project and “Jet” does that job marvellously.
