Plays: 80[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]
Three minutes and fifty-five seconds: A guiding principle of soca seems to be that anything can be turned into a reason to dance. So while most soca tracks are about wining, rum, carnival and sex you also get tracks about arthritis, pig farming… and Osama Bin Laden. Mighty Pawol’s “Osama Say” was recorded in early 2002, in time for that year’s carnival season, and is probably the most extraordinary musical response to 9/11 I’ve ever heard. (It’s also a pretty typically boshing soca track.)
Apparently the “answer” section isn’t working any more, but assuming this is just a tumblr glitch I’ll keep putting it up until either it does or they take it away. Apologies for people whose track suggestions have been going unseen: I appreciate them all! Reblogs work, and I think “likes” do too.
What would your 3’55” track be?
